What is coaching?

Lately there is much talk about coaching, apparently is the new emerging profession -although in the U.S. and Europe have a certain age- among Latin Americans is a recent development and is impressive to see his accelerated learning, so much so that sometimes when there is little subtle beyond the limits of the coaching and entering other fields such as therapy clinical psychology or simply counseling.

Sources of Coaching

The coaching has been structured as a discipline from the following sources:
1 .- The Socrates thought to maieutics,
2 .-
Timothy Gallwey's experience with coaching in the sports training in the USA,
3 .-
John Whitmore's experience with coaching in business in Britain and,
4 .- The contribution of
Thomas Leonard who is considered the father of modern coaching, was founder of the International Coach Federation (ICF) in 1994 and his contribution was in structuring techniques and processes of coaching.

What is Coaching?

It is an interactive process of learning between two persons pursuant to which, one of them (Coach) supports the other (the Coachee) to liberate their potential to achieve their personal goals through a series of communications techniques based on deep listening, the open question and the accompaniment of a coachee make their own decisions and put them into action.

It is estimated that coaching is not therapy and the coach must provide the cases that require specialized lead to a query, such as cases of depression, substance abuse, personality disorders such as extreme narcissism, in all these cases not possible to make a process of coaching because it has already expressed a condition that needs a clinical approach.

Accordingly, we are talking about developing the individual potential of individuals through coaching, but this is only possible if there is a willingness to change them and finally if there is commitment to take action and realize their goals.
